On Friday morning, the Year 6 from Birch class had the opportunity to head up to St Michaels church and try their hand at ringing the bells! We got to climb the 500-year-old tower, and enjoyed the spectacular view; we climbed up to see how the bells were hung and how the clever mechanisms for swinging them worked; and we had some expert tuition from Jon Bint in ringing the bells themselves. There is quite a knack to the process but Y6 quickly picked it up.
A massive thank you to Jon, Ruth and Joe Bint and Dr Chris Smallwood who generously gave up their time so we could have this fascinating experience. Jon is keen to recruit and train-up new bellringers, so if your child has come home enthused, drop Jon an email (email@example.com) and he can give you the details. Training is likely to be Friday afternoons @ 4pm and/or Saturday mornings from 9-11. Those times will be available by prior arrangement till the end of July then Jon will be having a break over August and will restart in earnest in September.
