Hedgehogs Summer 2 – Week 2
We’ve had a great week in Hedgehogs class staying active during PE, getting hands on with our maths work and pushing our descriptive writing skills to new levels.
In PE this week, we have been getting ready for Sports Day, which is next Wednesday afternoon, by practising a wide variety of skills on Monday and having a go at high jump on Wednesday. I am really proud of all of Hedgehogs class for not only giving their all, but for also supporting others so well! Lots of cheering, encouraging comments and helpful ideas throughout!
In Maths, we have been exploring measure work further by creating our own tally charts, taking traffic surveys and investigating different temperatures. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about how we can record data and use tally charts/surveys to find out the answers to our questions. We’ve even created our own surveys about the pressing issues of today’s modern world: How many pets do you have at home? Which do you think is the strongest Pokemon and What is your favourite Shopkin (Still trying to figure out what they are, let alone which is my favourite!)
In English we’ve been learning how to write commands and how to be bossy with Imperative ‘bossy’ verbs! As we use these verbs in our sentences, we’ve also been trying to describe carefully so that our instructions are clear and useful for the reader. We can’t wait to put all our work together to create instructions on how to make the most disgusting sandwich ever!
On Friday we had the pleasure of a ‘real-life’ author as the children explained coming in to visit us and talk about the wonders of reading and writing. Amy Sparkes, author of books such as ‘Ellie’s Magic Wellies’ and ‘Captain Blunderbeard’ had a great time sharing her stories with the children and telling them all about how she created each story. The children listened beautifully and asked some great questions at the end too!
Amy’s books will be available on Monday for those who wish to buy a copy of each story at a lower price of £5.50 (normally £6.99) so grab your copy then!
Those who wish to buy some books, please can the right amount of money be brought in for Monday morning, (preferably in an envelope with your child’s name on to avoid any confusion!), and given to either myself or another adult in Hedgehogs class.
Next week we are looking forward to Sports day on Wednesday, finishing our work on measurement and place value, working as a team to make our own instructions for a disgusting sandwich and more!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Joe Skinner and the Year 2 team.
