A warm welcome back to Chagford Primary School everyone!
We have had an excellent first week in Year 2 and have settled well into our huge new room! Confidence and a love of learning have been central to our learning this week and will continue throughout the year as we explore and develop our learning. Following on from Year 1, we have been working hard to establish belief in ourselves and instilling a love of reading, writing and maths at the heart of a broad and exciting curriculum is our focus.
This week during maths we have been looking at number sense and building on our understanding of place value.
In English, we have been recapping on our phase 5 phonics as we explore the structure of sentences and our new story Captain Yellowbelly.
Our topic this term is ‘Our School – Chagford,’ and we welcome any parents who wish to share their knowledge of the local area and town. We’ve had lots of great books being brought in and love to see families getting involved in their child’s learning!
Following this, if you would like to come into school to work with us, please do be in touch; this will be great! You do not have to commit to a regular time or come in every week.
Please find attached a timetable for Year 2 and our Jigsaw for this term. Mr. Dray is supporting us each week and teaching Year 2 on Thursday afternoons. Mrs Rowe will be helping out in Hedgehogs on Monday and Fridays while Clare will be in Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Homework has been sent out and we are pleased to see children already having a go and building that bridge between home and school learning! Homework is expected back on Wednesday of each week please and will be sent out again on Fridays.
Please could you ensure that your child has a named P.E. kit in school every day. If this causes any difficulties please let me know.
The children are welcome to bring in healthy snacks for playtimes but not sweets or chocolate. We can have sweets or chocolate to help celebrate special occasions like our birthdays.
We are all very excited for our new adventure and I look forward to getting to know you all further this year!
With best wishes,
Joe Skinner and the Year 2 team.
