Dear Parents and Friends
Hard to believe that this is the last day of this half term already but it has been an extremely busy time this week. The weather has been wonderful this week and the children have certainly enjoyed being outside as much as possible.
On Tuesday Mr Hatten, Mrs Dunnage and myself had the pleasure of taking three cricket teams to compete in the Dartmoor Cup competition at the Chagford Recreation Ground. The weather was amazing; a little hot at times but the setting made for a wonderful day of cricket. All the teams played really well and supported each other throughout the competition however without doubt the most competitive and exciting game of the tournament was when the Chagford B and C teams were set to play against each other. I am not sure whether Mr Hatten or Mrs Dunnage was the most competitive but the game was very exciting and tense. The final score was Chagford B 12 runs and Chagford C 13 runs – could not have been closer!
The Chagford A team had a convincing tournament and won all their games finishing 1st and qualifying for the finals of the Dartmoor Cup. Both Chagford B and C teams have qualified for the Plate competition next half term. Well done to you all for playing super cricket and representing the school impeccably.
Beech Class Collective Worship
On Thursday Beech Class led our Collective Worship and shared their extensive knowledge of toys through history, showed their own junk modelling toys, Andy Warhol artwork and retold their own narratives about their own special toys. The children were confident and excited about their learning and demonstrated their punctuation actions to the audience as they retold the entire Traction Man text – fantastic. No excuses for not remembering those capital letters, finger spaces, commas and full stops anymore!
It is with great sadness that I am announcing Miss Philpott’s resignation from her Assistant Head position. Miss Philpott will be leaving Chagford at the end of this academic year after working at the school for 11 years; in which time she has positively influenced the lives of many children through her teaching and will be greatly missed by all who work alongside her at the school. We all wish her every success and happiness for the future.
Two Hills Race
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone who is participating in the Two Hills Race on Monday, including many of our pupils, parents and members of staff the best of luck. Hopefully the weather will be comfortable for you and fun will be had by all! Remember it’s the taking part, not the winning! (said by possibly the most competitive person when it comes to sport!) Good Luck. The Chagford Swimming Pool opens this weekend also, so enjoy all that Chagford has to offer this weekend.
Have a lovely half term.
Stars of the week
Ash Class: There will be a ‘Star of the day’ board in the Foundation Stage classroom
Beech Class: Arthur – for an excellently designed and thought out Andy Warhol style picture of his toy, Jack – for choosing to write his own story about another toy during free time.
Yew Class: Lotte – for being a positive role model for all around her both in the classroom and beyond. Libby – for believing in herself to try new and exciting challenges in maths!
Oak Class: Lissy, Rosie and Ember – for organising and presenting an important assembly about road safety.
Birch Class: Due to Mr B’s involvement with interviews there are no stars today, these will be announced after half-term.
Top of the leaderboard this week with a Gold star is Beech Class. Silver award to Oak Class and Bronze to Birch Class. Well done everyone.
