Dear Parents and Friends

What an exciting week at Chagford School! We have seen a huge transformation in the grounds with the Kier hoarding boards removed and the ground works for the new Sport England standard pitch completed. It has given us more room back on the playground and by the week commencing 18th March we will be able to gather the children back together at morning break; which will be lovely. The space which has opened up as a result of the completed groundworks is fantastic and I am excited to begin the next phase, when the pitch will be seeded and the playground resurfaced. The children of Chagford C E Primary School are extremely lucky to have such a wonderful school site with plenty of different aspects and areas to explore.

Appointment of Executive Headteacher

Formal announcement from Hazel Fox, Vice Chief Executive Officer of Dartmoor Multi Academy trust on behalf of South Tawton, Chagford and North Tawton Governing Body:

We are pleased to announce that, subject to finalising paperwork, the Joint Governing Body have been successful this week in recruiting a permanent Executive Headteacher across our schools, Mrs Elizabeth Underwood.

Mrs Underwood’s previous role was as headteacher of a large Church of England  Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ Academy school in Buckinghamshire. She moved down to Devon recently and now she is settled she says she is very eager to take on a new professional challenge. Mrs Underwood impressed the recruitment panel in that, although she recognised the strength of each school, she could also see their huge potential. Whilst in her previous role, Mrs Underwood could describe the exciting IT programs she had brought into school, she is obviously equally happy writing and producing musicals with the children. In addition to impressing us through the rigorous recruitment activities Mrs Underwood was also the favourite of the school council, made up from pupils across all three schools. Mrs Underwood is keen to come into the schools to say hello and get to know the schools as quickly as possible in order to hit the ground running in September.

During this year some of our schools have had temporary leadership positions. We are looking to resolve all of these to permanent solutions for September in the coming weeks and we will of course keep you informed as things progress.

Chagford’s Own World Book Day!

Today the children  and staff came to school dressed as their favourite book character. It was a wonderful sight to see how much effort the children (and parents) had made for the day. Thankfully the weather was fine and the children were able to parade around the playground for the school councillors to make their difficult decisions on those winners for each class.

Winners of the World Book Day costume competition were:

Grace and Rowan for Ash Class

George H and Heidi from Beech Class

Max G and Millie From Yew Class

Bertie and Lissy from Oak Class

Brendan and Evie c from Birch Class

Response to Chagford C E Primary School Community Parent/Community Questionnaire

At the end of last summer and into the new Autumn term we as a school wanted to conduct a questionnaire to gain your views as stakeholders of Chagford C E Primary School on what we already do well and you value in a community school but also to gain opinions on areas which you would like to see some change or improvements in the future.

From the responses gathered, governors and leadership met to discuss the areas which were most commonly raised through the questionnaire and to create our response as a school. Please take a moment to read through the document and should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me at the school. Response to Chagford C E Primary School Community Stakeholder Questionnaire (Final) (2)

Have a great weekend.
