We have had a very exciting week in Beech class. We have been reading Handa’s Surprise. A story about animals stealing fruit from Handa’s basket. We made a story map with actions and so can now retell the story. We have also woven our own baskets to help us practice our fine motor skills. In maths, we have been doing addition using fruits. Finally, in English, we tasted some of the fruits from the story and thought of some adjectives to describe them. It has been a busy week, and I think we are now all ready for half term! We hope you all have a very fun and restful half term break and come back to school refreshed. There will be no spellings or train your brain over the holidays. This will recommence after half term.
Happy half term!
What a week we have had in Beech Class! We have been trialling having the room next door open for the Year 1 children. It has been a great success, there has been lots of different learning going on. We have been developing our fine motor skills by threading beads, developing our gross motor skills by building a house for the three little pigs with wooden blocks as well as our Maths and English tasks. Both Year 1 and Year 2 have been learning about ‘The Three Little Pigs’ story, we have been retelling the story, sequencing key events and we have also been designing a house, thinking about how to keep the big, bad wolf out!
Finally, just a quick reminder:
Good afternoon, it has been another busy week in Beech Class. We have been doing some history learning all about Chagford; we had a look at old pictures of Chagford and compared them to modern photos. We noticed lots of differences and some similarities too.
Today, we have sent home the first lot of spellings and a train your brain activity, please read the inside cover of the book for further information.
Starting on Monday, we will be trialling a new way of learning. We are going to be opening up the spare classroom next door to provide more learning opportunities for the children. It will be set up in zones with different learning activities in each. I will still be overseeing both year groups and teaching all the children as I have been doing, it will just be in a different style. I am very excited for this to start and think it will greatly benefit all the children. Please do come and see me if you have any questions about this or how it is going to work.
We hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
