My Sunday evenings are usually filled with fear and anxiety when I think about what horrors await me on a Monday morning (only half kidding!!) But I was genuinely excited last Sunday about the prospect of coming into school and teaching a full class of willing and happy children. I am pleased to say that everybody lived up to my expectations and I have left school each evening feeling content and energised after working with such an interesting jolly bunch.
If you have been around Oak class this week you will have noticed a very distinct motif. I have been telling myself that it has been my influence, although I’m not sure that’s the case. The very popular theme has been the wearing of facial hair. Many children have been keen to get involved exemplifying the general silly and good humoured spirit of this fantastic bunch. The first week back has certainly been fun. We have been working in small teams to solve problems and confront challenges. The teams have been tasked with creating boardgames and building paper towers. The children all worked extremely well together; listening well to others and respecting their ideas. In English we have been having lots of meaningful and purposeful discussions about feelings; looking at various colours, images and stories that evoke powerful emotions. We started the week reading the secret sky garden and got the paints and pencils out to create our own happiness kites.
