Hello everyone!
This week we've been spending lots of time practising for our school production of 'Midsummer Night's Dream'. We've been working on our singing, acting, and characterisation of our fantastic puppets. Today we had out first run-through with the whole school - it's coming along really well, and I can't wait to see it next week! As well as the play, we've started to focus on Time in Maths. We've thought about telling the time to quarter hours, as well as learning about the months in the year, and leap years. The children were very curious about leap years - "Who decided that a leap year is every 4 years?" asked one child! This led to an impromptu Science lesson about the earth's rotation around the sun, and how long it really takes for the earth to move once around the sun! (Why not ask a member of Oak class why leap years happen every 4 years?!) In English, we've been thinking about how to persuade. We've been looking at an example of a letter from the RSPB which persuades people to donate to the charity. Next week, the children are going to become ambassadors for the Rainforest Alliance, and try to persuade myself (along with the other teachers) to support the charity. If I can be persuaded in the letters from the children, I might even donate some money on behalf of the class - but they have to persuade me first! It was also a great week in French this week. Madame Jordan has been teaching the children about pets and animals, and this week they created their very own petshop. The children first practice a conversation in French to buy some pets, then they visited Madame Jordan's petshop to put their French to the test! Finally, I have a few things to ask: - As the weather is improving, please ensure that your child has a hat with them in school. Also, if you are able to, please provide your child with a bottle of suncream which they could keep in their bag. Suncream would be particularly useful for the play next week if the weather is sunny, as there isn't much shelter in the amphitheatre. - If you haven't already, please bring in your costume for the play on Monday next week (20th June). We are due to have a costume check on Monday where the children will try them on, so they need their costume in school. If you have any questions about the play or costumes, please do let me know. Have a good weekend everyone - keep practising our songs and dance! Miss Paddon
