The children of Hawthorn class have been very busy this week as follows...

• learning about factors, division facts and prime numbers in Maths
• writing their own monster stories based on Michael Morphurgo's Mimi and the Mountain Dragon. We made sure that we built plenty of drama and included speech to help us tell the story in a more interesting way.
• learning about the human digestive system in Science... this ended with a rather gross demonstration of food being mashed up in orange juice to represent stomach acid and then squeezed through a pair of tights to represent the small intestine extracting nutrients! A few stomachs turned that day!
• discovering why, if volcanoes are so dangerous, people still sometimes live near them
• we also finished off our Roman shields with Mr Dray in art - see picture below!

A particular highlight for us this week has been playing rounders outside on the field - we are so lucky that the weather held for this and the class are getting so much better at working as a team to field effectively and stump more people out before they manage to make it around all the posts! Great progress everybody!
