Morwellham Quay trip
On Wednesday this week yrs 5 and 6 enjoyed a trip out in the sunshine to Morwellham Quay on the banks of the river Tamar to see what life would have been like in Devon during the Industrial Revolution. We started with some child labour, rock breaking on the dressing floor but luckily we managed to come away with some treasures in the form of copper, iron pyrite and iron and all fingers remained intact. Then we were off into the mine. It was pretty scary when the lights failed and there was an explosion along the tracks but at least the underground waterwheel was working and we didn't get flooded (just a bit splashed!) Our final experience was the Victorian schoolroom! Needless to say, our lot didn't come off unscathed - the dunce's hat had to make an appearance as did the cane, the finger stocks and the back board to guard against slouching! I think it is fair to say that the children had a good time. "We imaginarily nearly got blown to bits!" "It was very funny in the Victorian school." "Don't mess around with a Victorian teacher." "I got goose bumps when there was the mine explosion." "The rock breaking was really interesting, finding lots of different minerals." March the 32nd was memorable this year! Maple class enjoyed some delicious brownies to mark the day. (BROWN Es)
