In Yew class this term we have a big focus on times tables as you will have seen in their home learning – we are learning the 2x, 5x and 10x times tables. We are also focussing on spelling and handwriting. This is alongside their usual learning, and for the rest of the term we are exploring the following: in English, we will be writing a story based on The Minpins, incorporating all their hard work on noun phrases and descriptions and conjunctions. In Maths, we are coming to the end of our work on Multiplication and Division (although the 2x, 5x and 10x times tables will remain a focus for the rest of the year, along with more if we can do it!). We will be moving onto Length and Height, so any opportunities you get to measure each other’s height, or measure objects in your home, will be really helpful.
In Geography, we are comparing life in the UK and Uganda, using maps and globes to locate places and learning about people’s lives in different contexts. In RE we are going to be learning about Easter and why it is important to Christians. In Science, we will be focussing on our human lifestyle, exploring different parts of the human body, why we keep fit and how to stay healthy. You may have seen Bob the skeleton in the classroom, he is missing an arm, so we hope to take better care of ourselves! In PHSE, we are learning about keeping ourselves safe and making good choices. This term we will be making a ferris wheel in Design and Technology, so I’d like to put a call out for egg cartons please. We will have a very special use for these in a little while. Finally, the class flexed their creative skills, and got involved in creating a piece of art for the lobby. If you pop into school you will see our canvas which is based on the work of Matisse. Last term we learned about his ‘painting with scissors’ technique and use of vibrant colours and incorporated these into our piece. We hope you enjoy it. Best, from Yew Class
