Yew class have been working really hard with the Spring round of assessments across English and Maths and showed great focus and effort all round. Alongside that, we continue to explore writing through literature and we have been focussing on adding suffixes and conjunctions, using contractions and writing descriptions. In Maths we have moved on to length and height. We now have a height chart in the classroom decorated with the children’s own design name plates, as they measure their own height. We have measured the length of the classroom and the hall and the playground – a lovely feat of teamwork and sunshine. We will shortly be exploring mass and capacity so any help you need with cooking – now is a great time to get them involved weighing and measuring! In Geography we have continued to use maps, a globe and Google Earth to locate countries around the world and we even had a go at drawing a map. Everyone agreed this was a challenge! We are learning about Easter and the Holy week and have created some lovely artwork depicting the key events. We continue to sing weekly, a broad range of songs, from folk songs, to hymns, to the Beatles. The class had great fun on Maths day last week, working with myself, Ms Lloyd and Mrs Robertson, exploring Maths in the world around us with paint, physical activities and creating 3D shapes.
Yew class will be off to the library next Tuesday afternoon. Please can you pack appropriate clothes for the weather along with a water bottle and a snack if your child is likely to need something to eat. Thanks, Ms Hall
