Our Wider Curriculum Offer and Trips

At Chagford School, we believe learning is enriched through a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities, both during the school day and beyond. Our offer includes clubs, sporting events and offsite trips that support children’s academic, physical and personal development.

Throughout the year, pupils can take part in a variety of clubs, including netball, running and JAM (Jesus and Me), among others. Sporting fixtures encourage teamwork and participation, with the school entering teams in inter-school tournaments, festivals and leagues. These events provide valuable opportunities for children to test their skills and experience competition at a higher level.

In the summer term, we are incredibly fortunate to be able to walk our KS2 pupils to the beautiful local outdoor pool for swimming lessons. We also work closely with our dedicated PTFA and are applying for grants to reinstate our popular Forest School provision. Based in our school woodland, Forest School offers a child-centred, inspirational learning experience that supports confidence, self-esteem and holistic development through hands-on exploration and supported risk-taking in a natural environment.

We are also lucky to welcome professional peripatetic music teachers into school, offering lessons in piano, violin, ukulele, drums, clarinet and guitar.

We facilitate the collection of children directly from school twice a week who attend Dartmoor Makers Pottery and Craft clubs.

At Chagford School, we believe meaningful learning extends beyond the classroom. Offsite trips play a vital role in enriching our curriculum, sparking curiosity and helping pupils connect their learning to the wider world. Visits to museums, nature reserves and cultural landmarks deepen understanding, build confidence and create lasting memories.
