Inclusive Education at Chagford Church of England Primary School

Chagford Church of England Primary School is a welcoming, inclusive mainstream school within the Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust. We are committed to providing high-quality education for all children, celebrating diversity and supporting individual needs.

Working closely with the Local Authority and families, we ensure every child makes progress, regardless of any special educational needs. Support is tailored through assessment and collaboration, with provision that goes beyond the standard curriculum where needed.

We promote equality, eliminate discrimination, and encourage pupils to become caring, responsible citizens. Every child is valued and has a voice in our school community.  All children are entitled to an effective education that is appropriate to their needs, promotes high standards and supports the fulfilment of their potential. The education they receive should;

• Enable them to achieve their best,
• Become confident individuals living fulfilling lives and
• Make successful transitions onto the next stage of their education

What is SEND and how is it identified?

What is SEND?

According to the SEND Code of Practice (2015), a child or young person is considered to have SEND if they:

• Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than most others of the same age, or
• Have a disability that makes it harder for them to access the same educational facilities as others their age in mainstream schools or colleges.

Children under compulsory school age may also have SEND if they meet the criteria above or would do so without additional support (as outlined in Section 20 of the Children and Families Act 2014).

The local offer for children with SEND

From the date that The Children and Families Bill became law, Local Authorities and schools are required to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for the children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) aged 0-25. This is the ‘Local Offer’.

The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will also be an important resource for parents in understanding the range of services and provision in the local area.
