Forest School
We are delighted to launch our new Forest School provision, led by Mr Frewin. Each half term, different classes will take part in a series of outdoor learning sessions designed to help children develop confidence, resilience, independence and a lifelong appreciation of the natural world.
Forest School is a child-centred approach to learning that takes place in our wonderful woodland environment. Through play, exploration and hands-on problem-solving activities, children are encouraged to become curious, creative and reflective learners. Sessions provide opportunities to develop social and communication skills, build physical coordination, take appropriate risks, and work collaboratively while fostering self-esteem and a sense of achievement.
At Chagford School, we believe that some of the most powerful learning experiences happen beyond the classroom walls. While we are fortunate to be located in the heart of Dartmoor, we recognise that modern lifestyles and increasing screen time can mean that many children have fewer opportunities to experience nature in a meaningful way. Our Forest School programme helps to redress this balance, enabling children to connect with the outdoors, develop a sense of awe and wonder, and gain a deeper understanding of the environment around them.
Learning in nature has been shown to support children's wellbeing, mental health and emotional resilience. By spending regular time outdoors, children can develop greater confidence, perseverance and independence, while benefiting from the calm, restorative qualities of the natural world.
We are excited to see our pupils grow, learn and thrive through this valuable new opportunity. We look forward to sharing their Forest School journey with you and celebrating the many skills, experiences and memorable moments that will be created along the way.
