Mathematics - Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs)

What are KIRFs?

KIRFs are Key Instant Recall Facts  important facts children need to remember throughout primary school and beyond. When these facts are well practised, children can focus on solving more challenging problems. Without regular practice, these facts are easily forgotten, so frequent repetition helps move them into longterm memory.

How to embed KIRFs?

Every half term, your child will work on a specific set of KIRFs. These will also be shared as part of home learning. Below you can find year groups KIRFs, grouped by term. Each sheet explains the focus, gives examples, and includes tips, websites, and resources to help with practice. KIRFs can be practised anywhere – on the school run, in the car, or at the dinner table. Short, regular practice makes the biggest difference.
