CARE
This page celebrates our school's natural desire to care: for its pupils, staff, our community and all of our stakeholders.
Each week, we award Care Champion Certificates to members of our school community, who have exemplified the value of CARE in one way or another.

CHAGFORD MEMORY CAFE
The school was invited to visit the Community's Memory Cafe, which is held at the Jubilee Hall in Chagford every second Tuesday of the month. Year 2 were given the privilege of the first visit in May 2022 and Miss Coleman reported that:
"Beech Class walked up to the Jubilee Hall and joined in with the monthly Chagford Memory Café, this month celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The children took up their drawings of Queen Elizabeth II which were enjoyed by all. We heard from one of the guests about the day of the coronation and how they felt. We also saw photos of the coronation and street parties from past jubilees. There were lots of interesting stories to be heard. We performed our ‘Rocket Ship’ dance which we had learnt in PE and then were invited to join in with a drink and biscuit. Everyone had a lovely time; on the walk back, a child even asked if we could do it every day!
The children were a real credit to Chagford School and excellent ambassadors. It was fantastic being able to go into the community and meet lots of new people; something we hope to do more of in the coming months."

SUNFLOWERS FOR UKRAINE
Many of our pupils asked if we could do something for the many tens of thousands of people who have fled the war in Ukraine. For children who may be anxious as a result of what they have seen on the news or heard grown-ups talking about, one of the kindest things we can do is give them a sense that they can actually do something, however small, to help with the worrying issue. The most immediate way to help was to raise funds, so we held a bake sale at the beginning of March 2021, which raised over £230 for the Disaster Emergency Committee. However, we wanted to create something longer-lasting at our school, so our next goal will be to raise money for Chagford Sanctuary – and this is our 'Sunflowers for Ukraine' project. Our dedicated gardening group prepared a space for our sunflower field at the front of the school and the seedlings were planted out in May 2022. By summer, we hope it will be a glorious riot of yellow and gold with a band of blue provided by cornflowers.
