It' s been a lovely couple of days back with Yew Class - Happy New Year everybody! Due to a teacher training day, I only had 2 days with the children this week, but my what packed days they have been.
We began a new Science topic on 'Habitats' which kicked off by us learning how to identify living things - cue many funny discussions around the 'MRS NERG' acronym! Each child took home a flower afterwards and will be able to describe to you signs that the flower is alive, based on what they've learnt 🙂 This half term we hope to do plenty of learning outside to investigate real habitats so please could your child bring in suitable outdoor wear on Thursdays, e.g. waterproof coat and shoes where it doesn't matter if they get muddy. We also had a fantastic time investigating real money in maths, getting to know what the different coins looked like and solving true-to-life maths problems with these. The children handled the money with great care and got a lot from playing with the actual physical coins, which I appreciate is less common in today's more cash-less society. On top of this, we've started some abstract collages in the style of Matisse, revisited Islam in RE and started some all-important learning on keeping ourselves safe in PSHE. A great start by all. Looking forward to the next full week with Year 2, it's going to be a busy one!
