At Chagford Primary School, science is an exciting, engaging and exploratory subject that aims to inspire children to unpick and understand the world around them. Our science teaching stimulates and motivates children’s curiosity about phenomena and events in the world around them.
Through science, pupils understand how major scientific ideas contribute to technological change – impacting on industry, business and medicine and improving the quality of life. Our children begin to recognise the cultural significance of science and trace its world-wide development. They learn to question and discuss science-based issues that may affect their own lives, the direction of society and the future of the world.
In our science lessons we consciously try to encourage the development of skills and attitudes that include co-operation, curiosity, perseverance, open-mindedness and a respect for evidence.
