We have had a fantastic first week back at school; all being together, getting to know each other, getting used to learning in the classroom again but the children (and the staff!) have been enthusiastic and excited to see each other! We have had a very packed and non-stop week including PE in the sunshine on Monday, Mid Week Music with Miss Rowe and Dress up Friday in the rain! We have been revisiting our class rules, practising our phonics and hunting for shapes. This term we will be introducing the children in KS1 to a new reading and writing scheme so you will see some unfamiliar reading books coming home; "No more Sam Tam and Tim I hear you cry, how sad!" Thank you all for your support over the past few weeks with the children's learning and here are just a few snippets from our week. .. Have a great weekend.

Welcome back to a new term and I for one am very happy to be back! We have had a really fun, busy week in Ash Class with a huge variety of activities for the preschool children, reception children, year 1 and year 2 children. We welcomed new friends to our group and spent time in the wonderful sunshine; all in all a fabulous week! Sunflowers... Year 1 maths... Reception maths... ...and some cooking in preschool! Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the sunshine!
Sara and the FSU Team Thank you for your patience and understanding over the past two days as we get organised for home learning. Tapestry is up and running. if you have an problems, please let us know.
I am delighted to let you know that Sara had her operation and is recovering at home. We all wish her a speedy recovery. Kaydee is in school working with Tina and Dani to cater for our vulnerable and key worker children in nursery and reception. On behalf of the whole team I wish you a very happy new year, despite the restrictions, and we look forward to seeing you all as soon as we are able to. Keep Safe Tara Penny Head of School. Christmas is definitely in the air; after a wonderful lantern parade yesterday evening, Father Christmas rode in on his push bike with a trailer full of presents for the classes! It was certainly a surprise for all the children when he arrived and a lovely sight to see. Not sure why I was in the naughty list though, mmmmm....?? The children have already opened and played the games from Father Christmas and we all like to say a huge thank you for our gifts...THANK YOU!!!!!!!! We only have one more week to go and we'll make it as much fun as we can while still doing lots of hard work!Have
Have a fun weekend Sara and the FSU team This week was the grand finale to our Solar System build up; after many dress rehearsals, we finally filmed our production of The Solar System in all it's glory! I will be working slavishly on the final cut over the weekend and will be presenting it to you our eagerly awaiting audience on Monday morning when you arrive to drop off, but in the meantime here are a few photos... We have also been making our own model of the Solar System, complete with twinkly stars (not Christmas lights; that's next week!) And I think we are quite confident that all the children know the order of the planets from the sun now... We have also been making lanterns for the lantern parade on the 10th December... ...and we have been continuing with our phonics and reading throughout the week.
Have a lovely weekend all and see you next week. Sara and the FSU Team We have continued our topic about Space and the children are enjoying the activities and challenges we have been setting around the theme. Last week we were learning the names of 2D shapes, this week we have been learning the names of 3D shapes; cube, cylinder and sphere or Sophia as it has now been renamed! The children then went on a shape hunt around the class, trying to find something either cubic, cylindrical or spherical. We have also been practising our solar system song and combining it with interpretive dance; watch this space for our performance coming soon! We are continuing with our phonics lessons and have learnt all the sounds in the alphabet now. Children are beginning to read books in class and bring books home to share with you and show off their skills!
Wishing you all a great weekend Sara and the FSU team Welcome....to...Space!! This week we have been completely immersed in Space!!! The children are really enjoying our new topic and have blown us all away with their knowledge and their ability to learn. We have been learning all about the solar system this week and each child has chosen a planet and they have been learning all about themselves! We have also been learning a song all about the solar system; you may have heard them singing it... "We are the soooolar system!" We then made a planet each, which we hope to use in our version of the solar system production! We also celebrated Children In Need on Friday...Tina and I spent the day In our onesies and I for one think we should do it more often! But on a serious note, we talked to the children about why we have Children In Need day. To celebrate we joined in with Joe Wicks 24 hour PE challenge and we made a chocolate, crunchy, biscuity, sprinkly, marshmallowy thing which was very exciting... We hope you have a great weekend and we'll see you next week.
Sara and the FSU team There goes our first week back, in the blink of an eye! Thank you all for your support with the new guidelines and mask wearing rules; it's tricky for the children to see us like this but they, as usual, have been awesome and taken everything in their stride. This week we have been busy talking about bonfire night and staying safe around fire. We then made our own fire pictures... Our theme this term is Space and we began our topic by looking at rocket ships that take us into outer space. In our maths sessions we have been looking at and naming 2D shapes then today we used 2D shapes to create our own rocket and outer space pictures... We have been practising our reading and writing skills in our Sounds Books and Literacy Books; everyone of the children has been so enthusiastic with their writing it's been hard to get them too do anything else!
We then finished the week with a party to celebrate Harry's 5th birthday; chocolate coins a plenty for the winners of musical statues, musical chairs and the best dancer! Have a great weekend and we'll see you next week for more fun and learning! Sara and the FSU Team PS just a couple of pictures of our maths and self portraits… We have had another busy week in the FSU this week; we started the week practising Fundamental Movement skills in our PE with Mr Ansell from Saints. We created self-portraits using only paper and scissors to cut the shapes we needed. Towards the end of the week we talked about our feelings; what makes us happy or sad or excited, then drew a picture of ourselves. Every single one of the children said they were happy so that made us happy too! To finish the week we had our favourite activity... Show and Tell! We have also been practising our number recognition and subitising in Maths. During Show and Tell we also had the opportunity to practice counting in 2's with the add of some very clever Smarties! Phonics is continuing and the children are beginning to learn their initial sounds well. We hope you have a lovely weekend Sara and the FSU Team I apologise that you can't see the drawings very well but trust me when I say they are all very happy!
We have reached the end of week 4 already and we have made lots of new friends throughout the FSU. We are beginning to learn our sounds and you may find that some of the older children are beginning to use these sounds to 'read'.
Every morning for the past 2 weeks we have been doing PE in the hall at the request of the children! It has been a great way to start the day and energise them ready for all their learning. We have varied the type of exercise but generally it is high energy moving and dancing to the likes of Dolly Parton and The Spice Girls! Also this term we have been looking at the changes of the seasons and talking about the leaves falling from the trees. Next week we will be discussing our families and their occupations so if any one has any interesting or unusual occupations you would like to share with us please let me know and although we can't invite you in we can collate some pictures and text via email and we can share it with the children in class. We hope you have a great weekend and stay as dry as you can! See you on Monday Sara and the FSU Team |
